Introduction:

It’s Monday! You know what that means, time for another plant highlight! This week we’re talking about the Zanzibar Gem, more commonly known as the ZZ plant. Let’s hop right into ZZ Plant care tips:

ZZ Plant Care Tips:

Light

These plants are fantastic for most homes because they’re incredibly hardy and will tolerate almost any light levels! If you’re not sure about a spot in your home’s capacity for a plant because it doesn’t get much light, this is the perfect plant to put there! Keep in mind though while this plant will be just fine in low light, it may become leggy, and if you want to see real growth it will need more bright indirect light.

Soil

This is a really hardy plant! Since they’re drought-tolerant plants, I tend to mix their soil with something well-draining like pearlite or mixing one part succulent mix with my normal go-to potting mix and I’ve had great success so far!

Water

As mentioned above, these plants are really drought tolerant, so you can forget all about them and be totally fine! They like to dry out fully in between waterings, so wait at least 2 weeks between each time.

Fertilizer

These plants are a bit odd in that they really don’t need fertilizer to grow! If you really want to see big growth as fast as possible, you can fertilize them with a nitrogen rich fertilizer watered down to half strength once or twice during growing season, but be careful not to go too crazy or you’ll risk burning the leaves.

Final Thoughts:

That’s pretty much it! ZZ’s are about as hardy as it gets for indoor plants, and their beautiful variety of foliage makes them a great fit for any home!
